The grand vistas of the tundra don't typically reveal the magic under-foot. We frequently came across dense thickets of blueberries while doing our various day-wanderings in the Blackstone Uplands, Yukon. It slowed down the hiking pace in a delightful way as we frequently stopped to graze. At one point I said "It's hard to get any hiking done with all these blueberries everywhere!". ..These wild blueberries are about half the size of the ones you'd buy at the grocery store, quite a bit more tart and very delicious! I have such fond memories of these berries that this photo is my current desktop background.
